The Time Q*bists are an experimental improvisational electronic music group centered in and around Boston, MA. Our music ranges from abstract chaotic noise to gentle ambience, all constructed with the basic premise that planning out a piece of music beforehand inevitably ruins the performance. We tend to have no idea what a sound or a sequence will sound like until we bring it into the mix, and we have no idea what the various members of the group will do at any given time. We create real time, stream-of-unconsciousness music, giving listeners full access to our mental states; there are no do-overs and each piece we write is thoroughly different than any other.
We have a penchant for older instruments and frequently try to use "found sounds" from items that are not generally considered instruments: video games, radios, etc. The Q*bists use techniques and equipment that have been around for decades, always aiming to put them to entirely new uses. Time Cube meets Q*Bert. Old, obsolete synthesizers pressed into service in an attempt to make the music of tomorrow. The way people thought the future was going to be, back in the early eighties.
We strive for interactive music, encouraging the audience to play with our games and toys, which we patch into the the mix with our music and convert into Q*bism.
We also play children's parties and bah mitzvahs.
